We recommend reading the “four Gospels” of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and reading them over and over. Through them we meet Jesus of Nazareth.
We also recommend reading an article by Shane Claiborne, “Downward Mobility in an Upscale World,” to introduce yourself to something central to what this Jesus was all about and how he calls us to a Way of “touch, breath, and shared life” that goes far beyond “charity”:
“People do not get crucified for charity. People are crucified for living out a love that disrupts the social order, that calls forth a new world. People are not crucified for helping poor people. People are crucified for joining them.”
